Dr. Murni Sianturi

Biography

Murni Sianturi is an Indigenous researcher with extensive experience working in Indigenous communities. She completed her PhD in Social Sciences at the University of New South Wales, where her research primarily focuses on the issues affecting Indigenous students and vulnerable children. With a foundation as a school teacher and lecturer, Murni's work emphasizes schooling practices that influence students' learning experiences, outcomes, well-being, culture, and identities. Her doctoral research involved employing technology to enhance partnerships between schools and Indigenous West Papuan parents. Murni has a proven track record in securing research grants and has acted as Chief Investigator on more than sixteen research projects, which she managed with diverse teams. Her methodological approach includes action research, case studies, ethnography, and mixed methods. Murni's commitment to Indigenous perspectives in education enhances her ability to cultivate robust partnerships across communities, government, and educational institutions. She has contributed to various scholarly articles published in reputable journals and has actively participated in global conversations regarding education in Indigenous contexts.
