Dr. Nancy Madden

Biography

Nancy Madden is a Professor at the School of Education at Johns Hopkins University, where she specializes in education reform and effective instruction strategies for disadvantaged students. As the CEO of the Success Foundation, she focuses on the development and dissemination of educational programs aimed at boosting achievement, particularly among underprivileged populations. Madden earned her undergraduate degree from Reed College in 1973 and completed her PhD in Clinical Psychology at American University in 1980. She has worked with the Center for Research and Reform in Education at Johns Hopkins for decades, influencing the implementation of comprehensive school reform programs that emphasize literacy and numeracy. Her research encompasses various areas, including computer-assisted tutoring techniques, the impact of vision services on academic achievement, and overall comprehensive school reform. She has authored and co-authored numerous articles and books discussing cooperative learning, tutoring, and prevention strategies in special education. Among her notable works are "Effective Programs for Students at Risk" and "Million Children: Success."
