Biography

Natalie Long is a graduate of the Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Western Australia (UWA), completed in 1998. With over 20 years of practice experience both nationally and internationally, she has developed a strong background in child protection and humanitarian work. Her dedication to advocating for the rights of individuals seeking asylum has shaped her professional journey, facilitated through her roles with various refugee organizations. Natalie began her career in Field Education at Curtin University in 2011. In 2016, she took a significant step in her career by accepting a volunteer assignment in Kathmandu, Nepal, where she not only served at a social work college but also supervised Australian social work students during their study trips and placements with local organizations. Upon returning to Australia in 2018, she resumed her work in Field Education, starting at UWA in late 2021. Through her role, she is continually inspired by witnessing the growth of students during their placements and appreciates the crucial contributions made by industry partners to the social work profession. She has expertise related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in the context of contributing to the global objectives of ending poverty, protecting the planet, and ensuring prosperity for all.
