Biography

Nicolas Labrosse received his PhD from Université Paris-Sud, where his thesis focused on modeling the helium spectrum of solar prominences, carried out under the supervision of Pierre Gouttebroze at the Institut d'Astrophysique Spatiale in Orsay, France. After completing his doctoral studies, he moved to Aberystwyth University in Wales to continue as a postdoctoral researcher in the Solar System Physics group. He joined the School of Physics & Astronomy at the University of Glasgow in 2007, where his core activities involve scholarship, learning, and teaching. His current educational research concentrates on assessment, leading staff-student partnership projects to evaluate methods of assessment in physics and astronomy. He has a particular interest in inclusivity in assessments and serves as the University Lead for Inclusive Assessment in Quantitative Disciplines. His research also covers student transitions and student engagement, especially for taught postgraduate (PGT) students. Labrosse has worked on various issues regarding the experiences of PGT students and has made several recommendations for improvement. He is an active member of the School's Astronomy & Physics Education Group, which he co-founded and co-chairs. Labrosse welcomes consultancy opportunities in higher education, especially in STEM and physics education. His areas of expertise include assessment design and implementation, inclusive learning and teaching practices, and supporting student transitions to university study.
