Biography

Nombuso Dlamini is the inaugural Jean Augustine Chair in Education and New Urban Environments at York University, where she explores youth negotiations of identity in these settings. She has authored 'Youth Identity Politics' (2005) and edited 'New Directions in African Education' (2008). Her research focuses on how global youths navigate their lives and generate social capital, reshaping urban spaces and creating new complexities in the education of diverse populations. Before joining York University in January 2010, she taught at the University of Pretoria in South Africa and the Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and held the position of Research Leadership Chair at the University of Windsor, Ontario. Dlamini has been involved in multi-year research projects across international contexts, including Tanzania, Nigeria, and South Africa, collaborating with institutions from various disciplines, including social work, education, and sociology.
