Biography

Patricia Buchanan is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Department of Statistics at Penn State University. She received her M.A. in Statistics from Penn State in 1988, M.S. in Physiology in 1987 from Penn State, and B.S. in Chemistry-Biology in 1978 from Lock Haven University. Buchanan has a keen interest in STEM statistical education research, with a special emphasis on pedagogy and assessment. She is actively involved in general education reform and has contributed to the development of the Statistics 200 curriculum, which utilizes simulation-based inference, effective from Fall 2017. Buchanan joined Penn State as an instructor in 1989 and has participated in a National Science Foundation project assessing student attitudes and knowledge through pretests and posttests. She collaborates closely with the Center for Excellence in Science Education (CESE) and Schreyer Institute for Teaching Excellence (SITE) to enhance teaching effectiveness. Buchanan is also engaged in supervising graduate students and has served on invited panels at national conferences to promote graduate student engagement.
