Dr. Peter Szasz

Biography

Dr. Peter Szasz is an Assistant Professor and Attending Staff at Kingston Health Sciences Centre, specializing in Bariatric General Surgery. He completed his residency in General Surgery at the University of Toronto and obtained a PhD in surgical education, focusing on competency-based education and assessment practices. Dr. Szasz furthered his training with a fellowship in Advanced Minimally Invasive Bariatric Surgery at Brigham Women's Hospital, Harvard University. His clinical interests include bariatric metabolic surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction, particularly herniorrhaphy. His research emphasizes improving surgical education and assessment practices throughout the continuum of resident training, as well as outcomes-based studies related to bariatric surgery and hernia repair techniques. He has a keen interest in resident education and currently serves as the Chair of the General Surgery Competence Committee and Associate Program Director of the Advanced GI/MIS & Bariatric Fellowship.
