Biography

Philip Fisher is the Diana Chen Professor of Early Childhood Learning at Stanford University and the Director of the Stanford Center on Early Childhood. His research focuses on developing and evaluating scalable early childhood interventions within communities, translating scientific knowledge to promote healthy development in conditions of adversity through social policy and programs. He is particularly interested in the effects of early stressful experiences on children's development and prevention and treatment programs that improve children's functioning in areas such as relationships with caregivers and peers, social-emotional development, and academic achievement. Fisher is currently the lead investigator on the ongoing RAPID-EC project, a national survey on the well-being of households with young children amid the COVID-19 pandemic. He is the developer of several widely implemented evidence-based interventions that support healthy child development in the context of social and economic adversity, including Treatment Foster Care Oregon for preschoolers and the Kids Transition to School program. Fisher has developed the Filming Interactions to Nurture Development (FIND) video coaching program to support parenting in home environments and to aid early childhood care and education professionals in preschool contexts. He has published over 250 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the 2012 Society for Prevention Research Translational Science Award and becoming a Fellow of the American Psychological Association in 2019.
