Dr. Philip Gough

Biography

Philip B Gough is the Barbara Pierce Bush Regents Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and joined the UT faculty in 1967. Dr. Gough served as Chair of the Department of Psychology from 1975 to 1979 and was Co-Director and Director of the Center for Cognitive Science from 1977 to 1987. He was the Editor of Reading Research Quarterly from 1985 to 1991. His research interests include psycholinguistics, cognition, reading, and reading acquisition, areas in which he has made significant contributions throughout his career. In 1986, he was awarded the Oscar S. Causey Award for Outstanding Contributions to Reading Research. As a fellow of the American Psychological Association, the American Academy for the Advancement of Science, and the International Academy for Research in Learning Disabilities, his work has been recognized nationally and internationally. Philip retired in spring 2004 but remains an influential figure in the field of cognitive science and reading research.
