Biography

Rami Nair spent his childhood in India and Poland, and he is fluent in four languages. He earned a Master’s degree in Applied Linguistics from the University of Warsaw in Poland and a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Northwestern University. Since 1998, he has been responsible for initiating the Hindi language program at Northwestern, which has evolved from the now non-existent Program in African Asian Languages. Nair teaches three levels of Hindi-Urdu classes and also coordinates the Hindi-Urdu Language Program. He is deeply committed to the Buffett Global Kitchen initiative, focusing on enabling instructors to use food and food-related language as a medium for teaching culture in the target language. His research interests encompass language pedagogy, language acquisition, commonly taught language issues, Bollywood movies, and gardening.
