Biography

Rebecca Cheung is an Associate Adjunct Professor and Assistant Dean at the Berkeley School of Education, leading the Leadership Development programs including the Principal Leadership Institute. She has worked with multiple advisory groups focused on improving educator preparation across the United States. Cheung is the Principal Investigator and Director of the 21st Century School Leadership Academy, which aims to provide professional learning for California’s educational leaders. Her research centers on leadership preparation and development, particularly regarding equity and social justice in education, and how to cultivate educator diversity in pre-K–12 public schools. She has also served as a consultant in higher education and professional learning. Prior to her role at UC Berkeley, she spent over 15 years in various educational roles in the Oakland and Berkeley Unified School Districts. Cheung holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership from UC Berkeley and has received several recognitions for her contributions to education, including the Emerging Leader award from Phi Delta Kappa International in 2013, and the UC Berkeley Chancellor’s Award for Advancing Institutional Excellence and Equity in 2024.
