Dr. Reuben Pengelly

Biography

Reuben Pengelly is a Principal Teaching Fellow at the University of Southampton, specializing in genomics and bioinformatics education. He serves as the Programme Lead for the MSc in Genomics and has held pivotal roles such as Faculty Deputy Director of the Graduate School, overseeing postgraduate research studies. Reuben completed his undergraduate degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Bath, followed by a PhD at the University of Southampton where he focused on next-generation sequencing data analysis in medical population genetics. After completing his PhD, he worked as a Research Fellow on the Wessex Clinical Exome Pilot, contributing bioinformatic support to NHS service development. In 2017, he transitioned to a lectureship, emphasizing education in genomics. His research interests include student attitudes toward academic integrity, the splicing regulation of metal-binding proteins, and cancer genomics, particularly exploring mutational profiles in various cancers. Reuben is an active member of educational research initiatives, augmenting student learning experiences while maintaining academic integrity.
