Biography

Richard Elmore was a Professor of Education, Emeritus at Harvard Graduate School of Education, where he joined the faculty in 1990. Prior to that, he taught at the College of Education at Michigan State University and the Graduate School of Public Affairs at the University of Washington. He was a member of the National Academy of Education and served as past president of the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management. Elmore held important positions within the federal government, acting as a legislative liaison in the U.S. Congress regarding education policy issues. He was the director of the Doctor of Educational Leadership (Ed.L.D.) program at HGSE and focused his research and clinical work on building capacity for instructional improvement in low-performing schools. His notable publications include co-authoring 'Instructional Rounds in Education: A Network Approach to Improving Teaching and Learning' and authoring 'School Reform: Policy, Practice, and Performance'. He also contributed to a variety of journal articles addressing educational reform and school leadership.
