Biography

Richard Noss is the founder of the London Knowledge Lab and has served as co-director for ten years. He is a Professor of Mathematics Education and holds a Master's degree in Pure Mathematics and a PhD in Mathematical Education. He co-founded and was the deputy scientific manager of Kaleidoscope, a European network of excellence in technology-enhanced learning, and directed the UK's Technology Enhanced Learning Research Programme, which was funded jointly by the ESRC and EPSRC. His research focuses on the design and construction of computational environments for learning, particularly in relation to mathematics. Noss has extensively researched the types of mathematical knowledge that are necessary in technology-rich workplaces and has explored appropriate ways to harness technology to foster this knowledge. He is a founding member of the International Journal of Computers in Mathematical Learning and has held several editorial positions, including Editor-in-chief from 1999 to 2005. Noss is a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications and was elected a Foreign Fellow of the Union of Bulgarian Mathematicians in 2012, as well as being a Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne.
