Biography

Rosa Archer graduated in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Rome and completed a PhD in Pure Mathematics specializing in Algebraic Topology at the University of Warwick in 1995. After post-graduate studies, she took a position as a lecturer at St Mary’s University Twickenham and later became Head of the Department at a sixth form college in Reading. In 2011, she moved from London to Manchester and accepted a role as Team Leader for the Secondary Mathematics PGCE. Over the years, she has developed a Subject Knowledge Enhancement Course for mathematics teachers and has tutored participants in the Teach program. In 2012, Archer was awarded an early research grant by the University of Manchester to investigate the development of Lesson Study as part of the PGCE course. She is passionate about mathematics teaching and her research aims to improve the learning experience for both young people and teachers. Her interests include mathematics education, lesson study, and subject knowledge enhancement for teachers, with a focus on using lesson study for professional development for experienced teachers alongside student teachers. Archer is involved in an international project that collaborates with South Africa and is interested in school-university collaboration for teacher development, particularly using lesson study as a vehicle.
