Biography

Samantha Corrington is an Assistant Teaching Professor at the School of Child and Youth Care at the University of Victoria. She is a passionate alumnus of the Child Youth Care undergraduate program and has firsthand experience in the power of inspiring students in the field. Samantha joined the school as a full-time faculty member in July 2018 and is a valued member of the SCYC sessional teaching team while practicing as a Child, Youth, and Family counsellor/practitioner. She obtained her graduate degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. With her background in Child and Youth Care, along with her graduate degree, she has become a well-regarded clinical counsellor recognized by the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC). Samantha brings 25 years of experience in child, youth, and family community care in various settings across locations such as the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, and South Florida. Her roots are in residential care working with youth in various contexts, and her broad experience encompasses direct practice, pre-employment programs for youth, family counseling, and community organizing. Samantha is also a devoted mother, and she believes that the greatest learning has come from her experiences in caring for her senior mother.
