Professor Dr. Sean Lessard

Biography

Sean Lessard is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta, specializing in Indigenous Education and Teacher Education. He has an extensive background as a youth worker, teacher, and guidance counselor. His academic work focuses on narrative inquiry, relational ethics, and the empowerment of Indigenous youth through community-based education practices. Dr. Lessard is deeply committed to collaborating with Indigenous youth and their families to develop educational programs that are innovative and responsive to their unique needs. His research interests include Indigenous youth wellness, inter-generational leadership, and the use of land-based approaches to education. He has received numerous awards for his contributions to education and research, including the Indigenous Youth Leadership Scholarship and the Pat Clifford Award for Early Career Research. Dr. Lessard actively engages with communities to shape curricular processes and enhance understanding of identity within educational contexts.
