Dr. Sharon Vaughn

Biography

Sharon Vaughn is an accomplished professor and executive director at the Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk at the University of Texas at Austin. She holds the Manuel J. Justiz Endowed Chair and is renowned for her research in effective interventions for students with reading difficulties and English language learners. With a Ph.D. from the University of Arizona, Vaughn has authored over 35 books and 250 peer-reviewed articles, addressing significant issues in learning disabilities. Her work focuses on developing evidence-based practices for educators to enhance reading outcomes for diverse student populations. Vaughn has received numerous accolades, including the University of Texas Distinguished Faculty Award and the AERA SIG Distinguished Researcher Award. She is a principal investigator on several grants from the Institute of Education Sciences and the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, contributing to national and international education efforts. Her research has a global reach, involving collaboration with educators in countries such as Japan, Canada, and Australia. In addition to her academic roles, she has served as editor-in-chief for the Journal of Learning Disabilities and co-editor for Learning Disabilities Research & Practice, emphasizing her leadership in the field.
