Biography

Sommer Forrester is an Associate Professor in Music Education whose research focuses on music teacher education knowledge, curriculum development, and conducting pedagogy. Her work aims to deepen connections in higher education among pre- and in-service teachers and community partners. Forrester has published extensively in notable peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Research in Music Education, Journal of Music Teacher Education, and Massachusetts Music Educator. Additionally, she has presented her research at both national and international conferences and currently serves on the executive board of the Society for Music Teacher Education, as well as the editorial board of the Journal of Music Teacher Education. Forrester is also active as a guest conductor and clinician across North America and the Middle East. She has taught undergraduate music education courses at the University of Massachusetts Boston, where she has held leadership positions, including Program Coordinator for Music Education. In 2018, she was awarded the Community Engaged Innovation Teaching Award at UMass Boston.
