Biography

Stephanie Denison is a Professor and the Associate Chair for Graduate Affairs in the Department of Psychology at the University of Waterloo. She obtained her BA from the University of British Columbia and completed her PhD at the University of California, Berkeley. Denison directs the Developmental Learning Lab and is co-Principal Investigator at the Child Online Research Activities Lab (CORAL). Her research primarily focuses on infant and early childhood cognition, exploring how children learn to use various types of information to make inferences. Her interests include topics such as infant probabilistic reasoning, preferences and desires in children, and the ways in which children utilize heuristics and biases to understand emotions and agency. She also serves on the governing board of the Cognitive Science Society. Current research in her lab examines how children abstract multi-modal information in informal learning settings, such as museums.
