Dr. Teresa Dawson

Biography

Teresa Dawson is a Teaching Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of Victoria. She holds a BA (Hons) and MA from the University of Oxford and another MA from McMaster University. Her expertise lies in geography pedagogy and feminist geographies, with a strong focus on effective teaching assessment and the enhancement of diversity within the academic environment. Additionally, she is dedicated to advancing teaching and learning-related institutional change, particularly through curricular reform. Dawson has contributed significantly to the field with her publications, including 'Teaching College Geography: A Practical Guide for Graduate Students and Early Career Faculty' and 'Teaching and Learning Community-Based Research: Pedagogy and Practice.' As a co-founder of the Vancouver Educational Developers Alliance (VIEDA) and a past chair of the Educational Developers Caucus, she has been an active member of the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) Board for a decade. Her interests also encompass academic program design, development, and the use of teaching portfolios to improve student experiences, as well as mentoring new colleagues in the field of geography education.
