Tim Ross is a Scientist at the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography and Planning and the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute at the University of Toronto. He is a Registered Professional Planner who leads the Engagement Planning Inclusive Communities Lab (i.e., EPIC Lab) where he researches community experiences of families living with childhood disability and the planning and design of accessible and inclusive communities. Tim's recent work has focused on the school travel experiences of disabled children and their families, the design of inclusive playgrounds in Canada, and the patterns of accessible taxi travel along with service issues. His research addresses questions of disability, normalcy, and ableism, especially how these concepts relate to the planning and design of built environments, services, and systems. He is looking to supervise master's and doctoral students who are committed to advancing accessible and inclusive communities and is open to discussing prospective students' research topics, particularly those that align with his four research areas: access to education, transport and mobility, inclusive play, and addressing institutional ableism. Prospective students with a strong desire to collaborate and who have excellent writing skills, along with knowledge of disability theory, qualitative methods, childhood disability, and/or accessible and inclusive planning design, are encouraged to reach out.
