Biography

Yoav Bergner is an Associate Professor at NYU Steinhardt, specializing in Learning Sciences and Educational Technology. He earned his A.B. in physics from Harvard University and his Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research bridges psychometrics and the learning sciences, employing analysis methods to inform educational design. Yoav is particularly interested in assessment in learning environments such as Makerspaces and Fablabs, data literacy, and curriculum design. He co-developed CPSX, a real-time small-group discussion extension using the Open edX learning management system. His work has been showcased at various conferences, including the International Educational Data Mining Society, Learning Analytics Knowledge, and the International Meeting of the Psychometric Society. Before joining NYU, Yoav was a Research Scientist at Educational Testing Service and has also worked as a sculptor, furniture-maker, and as a teacher in public and early college high schools. He has a keen interest in educational data measurement, which led him to serve as a research associate at MIT, focusing on student modeling for online learning environments and MOOCs. Yoav was also a MacArthur/ETS Edmund W. Gordon Fellow for 21st Century Learning Assessment from 2013 to 2016.
