Dr. Zeynep Onat Stelma

Biography

Zeynep Onat-Stelma is a trained language teacher from Turkey, with over ten years of experience. She earned her PhD from the University of Leeds, focusing on Language Teacher Education and Development. Her doctoral research investigated the experiences of teachers transitioning from teaching young adults to teaching young learners amidst changes in the Turkish education system and the integration of English into the primary curriculum. After completing her PhD, she undertook research projects while teaching at the University of Manchester. Currently, she serves as Programme Director for the MA TESOL programme and teaches on the BSc Education programme. Her primary research interests include Bilingualism/Multilingualism, Language Teacher Education, Teaching Languages to Young Learners, and Developing Researcher Skills. Throughout her career, she has been involved in multiple research projects, including examining adult language teachers' use of technology and the VALON project, which explored lifelong language learning in teacher education. Her work contributes to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, focusing on education and training that promotes inclusivity and learning opportunities for all.
