Biography

Currently Camões Lecturer in Portuguese Studies at King’s College London, I combine research on Lusophone visual cultures—particularly graphic novels—with postcolonial transnational studies and extensive experience in language teaching. I teach Portuguese language, comics studies, and Lusophone literature at the undergraduate level, adopting inclusive and creative approaches to learning. I have developed digital instructional materials and continue to design scenario-based resources to enhance student engagement in diverse contexts. My work integrates scholarship, pedagogy, and digital innovation to examine how languages and cultures interact, overlap, and circulate globally. My research interests include Comics Studies focusing on the graphic novel in the Lusophone world, e-Learning, Technology-Enhanced Language Learning, Dyslexia, and Creative Approaches to Learning. My teaching has been distinguished by innovation in language pedagogy, recognized with a nomination for the King’s Education Award (2025). I have implemented blended learning since 2015 and have developed digital toolkits and resources to support diverse learners. My research examines Lusophone visual cultures and their intersections with colonial and postcolonial memory, as well as advancing inclusive curriculum design in collaboration with institutions in Brazil, Mozambique, and East Timor.
