Dr. Ann Childs

Biography

Ann Childs is an Associate Professor of Science Education in the Department of Education at the University of Oxford. She holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Birmingham. With over eleven years of experience teaching science in secondary schools in the UK and West Africa, Ann has developed a strong focus on science teacher education. Since 1995, she has been involved in teacher education at Oxford University, serving as a fellow at Lady Margaret Hall. Her research interests lie in understanding the dynamics of science classrooms, particularly how effective explanations are constructed and the interaction between teachers and students. Ann is particularly interested in the language used in classrooms that utilize English as a medium of instruction and the preparation of teacher educators in science and mathematics. She welcomes informal contacts from prospective doctoral students who share her interests in these topics.
