Biography

Antoine van den Beemt is an associate professor at the Eindhoven School of Education, specializing in the area of STEM teacher professional development. He has extensive expertise in Technology Enhanced Learning and Networked Learning. His current research focuses on innovation in higher engineering education, with particular attention to Learning Analytics, Challenge-Based Learning, and transdisciplinary learning. He studied Sociology at Tilburg University and graduated in 1994. Subsequently, he earned an MA from Maastricht University and followed a European Master's course on Science, Society, and Technology. Between 1995 and 2005, he taught Interaction Design and Game Design & Development at Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU). In 2006, he began his PhD research at Utrecht University, obtaining his doctorate in 2010 with a thesis titled 'Interactive media practices of young people: Origins, backgrounds, motives, and patterns.' He has held various educational roles, including coordinator of education in Communication & Media Design at Avans University of Applied Sciences and course leader for Game Design Technology at Fontys University of Applied Sciences. In the 2011/2012 academic year, he worked as a senior researcher at Learning ICT at HAN University of Applied Sciences and served as an assistant professor at Open University of the Netherlands before joining Eindhoven University of Technology in 2014, where he was promoted to associate professor in 2019.
