Dr. Anton Puvirajah

Biography

Dr. Anton Puvirajah is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean of Teacher Education at the Faculty of Education at Western University. He specializes in STEM education, particularly in the areas of curriculum studies and applied linguistics. Dr. Puvirajah earned his PhD from Wayne State University, focusing on teacher education with an emphasis on science education. He has extensive teaching experience ranging from elementary to high school and has held academic positions at Georgia State University and Kennesaw State University. His research interests primarily lie in examining the discourse communities among STEM learners and how these affect learning experiences in both formal and informal settings. His current research includes projects funded by the National Science Foundation aimed at enhancing teacher practices and developing computational competencies among students. He also investigates the use of video in critical incident reflection to promote transformative learning among teachers. Dr. Puvirajah actively collaborates with industry and scientists to create engaging science learning opportunities, focusing on community building and the impact of technology in teaching. He aims to thoroughly understand how educational practices can lead to improved outcomes for underrepresented students in STEM fields.
