Biography

Atsuko Suga Borgmann is an Associate Teaching Professor in East Asian Studies at Brown University. She holds a Master's degree in Asian Studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and is currently pursuing her doctorate in Urban Education with a focus on Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. With over twenty years of experience, she has taught Japanese language and culture, coordinated the Japanese program, and developed undergraduate courses. Her major research interests include language pedagogy, particularly multimodal learning and its impact on language acquisition. Additionally, she explores integrating technology into language pedagogy and employs content-based and task-based instructional methods. Atsuko teaches various levels of Japanese and has a full Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) Tester certification from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). She actively engages in research focusing on the intersection of multimodal learning and Japanese pedagogy.
