Dr. David Spendlove

Biography

David Spendlove has held a variety of successful teaching and leadership roles in secondary schools and universities over five decades, demonstrating a deep commitment to education and innovation. His career began as a secondary school teacher and progressed to become a Gatsby Fellow and a senior manager. In the higher education sector, he has developed numerous high-quality initial teacher education initiatives. As a Professor of Education and Associate Dean at the Faculty of Humanities, he leads significant projects, including designing and launching innovative academic programmes and enhancing quality assurance systems. He plays a prominent role in national and regional education policy and has numerous contributions to educational media. His research interests lie at the intersection of policy, practice, and politics in education, focusing on teaching and learning and the professionalism of trainee teachers. He employs various methodological approaches to explore the factors shaping educational outcomes. Spendlove has contributed to the academic community through extensive publications and has supervised PhD students in multiple fields.
