Biography

Deryn P. Verity is a language teacher and teacher educator who has taught at universities in Japan, Yugoslavia (on a Fulbright lectureship), Thailand, Poland, and the United States. A member of the Applied Linguistics department at Penn State since 2012, she teaches and advises in the MA TESL program and directs the ESL/EAP Programs and first-year writing program for international multilingual writers. Her research interests encompass the application of Vygotskian Sociocultural Theory to language instruction, teacher education, and tutor training development. Verity's work focuses on writing pedagogy, curriculum design, and general TESOL skill development. She is co-editor of the volume "Integrational Linguistics: Philosophy, Language, Global South" (Routledge, 2021) and co-author of the 2023 book "Praxis-Oriented Pedagogy for Novice L2 Teachers: Developing Teacher Reasoning". Active in university governance, she serves as the Undergraduate Studies representative and is involved in reformulating the General Education Curriculum and the Dean’s Advisory Committee on Teaching Faculty affairs.
