Biography

Emily Cantrell serves as a Clinical Professor at Texas A&M University, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses focused on literacy and multicultural education. As the Co-Chair of the Advanced Literacy Studies Program and Director of the Reading Specialist program, she emphasizes evidence-based literacy instruction and prepares future educators to meet the diverse needs of students. With a strong commitment to improving teacher education, she has been a founding board member of the Center for Effective Reading Instruction and has contributed significantly as an Associate Editor for the Reading League Journal and on the Editorial Boards of Annals of Dyslexia and Education Sciences. Her experience includes consulting for school districts across the state and nation and teaching young children, including those with autism, in a small Texas district. Previously, she served as an Assistant Professor and Research Coordinator at the University of Hull in England. Emily holds a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a reading emphasis from Texas A&M University, where she also completed her master's and bachelor’s degrees in similar disciplines. She is passionate about enhancing the preparation and support that teachers receive, believing they are crucial tools in the education system.
