Biography

Eve Manz is an Associate Professor at Boston University’s Wheelock College of Education & Human Development. Her core motivation is to support teachers and young people in engaging with learning and building capabilities for new ways of seeing the world. Her research focuses on elementary science education, where she has studied the development of learning environments that engage children in science practices such as modeling, argumentation, and explanation. Dr. Manz collaborates with elementary teachers and instructional leaders to devise new approaches to science instruction that enhance student meaning-making. Currently, she is working under a National Science Foundation CAREER grant with district partners from the Somerville Public Schools to develop innovative methods for conducting elementary school science investigations. Additionally, she has contributed to the design of the Great Eight, a full-day, assets-based interdisciplinary curriculum for young children in metropolitan areas. Dr. Manz’s work has received funding from organizations such as the James S. McDonnell Foundation and the National Science Foundation, and she was awarded the 2019 Early Career Research Award from the National Association for Research in Science Teaching. Her commitment to enhancing science education has also led her to serve on the National Academies of Science Engineering Committee focused on improving science education from prekindergarten through fifth grade.
