Biography

Gary Bonar is a Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Education at Monash University, Australia. He worked in the Victorian secondary education sector, where he served as a Curriculum Coordinator responsible for Literacy, Languages, and Social Sciences. Gary has taught languages such as Japanese and Italian, as well as English as an additional language in secondary schools. He also has ten years of experience teaching English in diverse sectors across Asia and Europe. In 2013, he was awarded the Australian Scholarship Group’s PhD Scholarship for exceptional mid-career professionals. His research interests include languages teaching, language teacher identity, English Medium Instruction (EMI), multilingualism, and literacy studies in Asia, with a particular focus on English-language learning in the region. He is committed to research that aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and focuses on transforming teaching and learning practices to ensure diversity and inclusion in education.
