Gina Cervetti’s research focuses on interface literacy and content-area learning. She investigates the role of sustained engagement in literacy development and seeks ways to help students utilize inquiry tools to address questions within the curriculum. Her doctoral work in educational psychology conducted at Michigan State University was followed by years as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Berkeley, where she led the literacy team in the development of integrated science-literacy curriculum units for students in grades 2-5. Cervetti has contributed to materials aimed at academic discourse and vocabulary acquisition within science curricula to support teachers’ practice and facilitate teacher learning. Currently, she is a co-principal investigator on a National Science Foundation-funded study evaluating the efficacy of the Seeds/Roots model for integrating science and literacy, focusing particularly on English learners and curricular design frameworks to enhance teachers’ ability to support linguistically diverse students in science education.
