Dr. Hossein Nassaji

Biography

Hossein Nassaji is a Professor of Linguistics in the School of Languages, Linguistics, and Cultures at the University of Victoria. He specializes in Applied Linguistics with a focus on language acquisition, corrective feedback, form-focused instruction, task-based teaching, classroom discourse, and sociocultural theories in language pedagogy. His research interests include L2 reading processes, lexical inferencing, and the acquisition of L2 vocabulary, with a particular emphasis on interactional feedback in instructed language acquisition. He has published extensively in top-tier journals and has edited several volumes, contributing significantly to the field of language teaching research. Nassaji serves as Co-Editor for Language Teaching Research and as Editor-in-Chief for the TESOL Encyclopedia of English Language Teaching. His recent works include books such as 'Corrective Feedback in Language Teaching and Learning' and 'Cambridge Handbook of Corrective Feedback in Language Learning and Teaching'. Over his career, he has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Kenneth W. Mildenberger Prize from the Modern Language Association of America and the Faculty of Humanities Award for Research Excellence at the University of Victoria. Nassaji is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, a distinction awarded to distinguished scholars in the country.
