Biography

Ingrid Piller is a Distinguished Professor of Applied Linguistics at Macquarie University, Sydney. She has previously served as the Executive Director of the Adult Migrant English Program Research Centre (AMEP RC). Throughout her international career, Dr. Piller has held academic appointments in various countries, including Germany, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, and the USA. She is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Humanities and was awarded the Anneliese Maier Research Award in 2018. Piller is also the author of the bestselling 'Intercultural Communication' (Edinburgh University Press, 2nd ed., 2017) and has over 400 publications to her name. In addition to her academic roles, she is a member of the Australian Research Council (ARC) College of Experts and serves as the editor-in-chief of the international sociolinguistics journal 'Multilingua'. She also edits the sociolinguistics portal 'Language on the Move' and is active on social media, where she tweets about linguistic diversity.
