Biography

Jen Munson's research focuses on understanding interactions among mathematics students, teachers, and coaches to support learning. She examines the nature of discourse within elementary classroom settings to generate deep learning, inquiry, and analysis. Her work occurs at the intersection of understanding discursive mechanisms that support student learning as well as how to support teachers in enacting pedagogical approaches within their classrooms. Munson directs the Multiplicity Lab, which supports mathematics teachers globally through brief visual activities that foster multiple ways of knowing mathematics. She received the NAEd/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2020 for her work on side-by-side coaching. Munson is the author of "Moment: Conferring in the Elementary Math Classroom" (2018) and the co-author of the "Mindset Mathematics" curriculum series (2017-21) for grades K-8. Her recent book, "Collaborative Math Classroom: Launching Student-centered Mathematical Community" was published in 2023.
