Dr. Jim Hatch

Biography

Jim Hatch is a Professor Emeritus at Ivey Business School, specializing in Finance. His research interests primarily focus on the utilization of case method teaching and general theories of practice-based learning. He has authored a significant number of books, including works in both Mandarin and English, emphasizing decision-making in adult learning contexts. Over the years, Hatch has produced five refereed journal articles that address these topics and has engaged in a variety of research projects concerning the innovations in case method learning. His work includes the development of a conceptual framework for case method learning and empirical studies examining the role of reflection in experiential learning within corporate settings. Additionally, Hatch has been a frequent visitor to China, showing a keen interest in business education within the Chinese context. He has written an impressive 170 cases and technical notes and is a co-author of multiple case books. His published works also cover subjects such as capital markets, small business finance, and commercial banking, further contributing to several related journal articles. Apart from his academic pursuits, Hatch has served on the boards of various academic and private sector organizations, reinforcing his commitment to both education and public service.
