Dr. Josef Ploner

Biography

Josef Ploner is a Senior Lecturer in International Comparative Education at the Manchester Institute of Education, University of Manchester. His academic career has spanned various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, focusing on international and comparative education with strong civic-engagement components. Ploner has served as Programme Director for the BA in Management, Leadership, and Leisure and is currently leading the BA in Education, Leadership, and Culture. His innovative teaching practices promote authentic student engagement in educational leadership within cultural and creative industries contexts. His research interests include international education, academic mobilities, and the intersections of migration and education, particularly in higher education contexts. He has published on topics related to international student migration and cultural contestation in educational settings, and serves as Co-Editor for the Journal of Tourism and Cultural Change. Ploner also participates actively in higher education research networks and has a proven track record of supervising students at various levels, culminating in successful dissertation and thesis completions.
