Biography

Kelly Bylica joined Boston University faculty in 2020, teaching courses in choral general music education, research practices, and creative curricular design. Her scholarly interests are rooted in facilitating experiences that encourage music educators and students to challenge assumptions and develop critically artistic dispositions in musical experiences. Kelly's research agenda focuses on curriculum policy, critical pedagogy, middle school music, and issues related to diversity, access, and leadership in music education. She has presented at regional, national, and international conferences and has published chapters in notable works such as the Oxford Handbook of Music Composition and the Oxford Handbook of Care in Music Education. Her work can be found in various journals including Music Education Research and the British Journal of Music Education. Kelly currently serves as the Chair of the Council for Research in Teacher Education for the Massachusetts Music Educators Association and engages in workshops for preservice music educators and practicing teachers.
