Biography

Kwesi Yaro is an Associate Professor in the Department of Secondary Education at the University of Alberta. Dr. Yaro is a certified professional teacher in British Columbia and Prince Edward Island. His research interests center around cultural sustainability, social justice, and inclusion in mathematics education, informed by an Afrocentric paradigm and guided by Ubuntu philosophy. He aims to explore the role of diasporic African parents in children's mathematics learning and contribute insights for developing culturally responsive mathematics curricula. One of his notable publications is titled 'Situated Perspectives: Creating Mathematics Tasks for Peace and Sustainability' in the Canadian Journal of Science, Mathematics and Technology Education.
