Biography

Maria Jarl is an Associate Professor in the Department of Education and Special Education at the University of Gothenburg. Her main research interests focus on educational governance, educational reform, and educational effectiveness. Jarl has led several important research projects, including a study on school success financed by the Swedish Research Council and others concentrating on the role of objectives in educational governance, supported by the Riksbankens Jubileumsfond. Currently, she is investigating leadership autonomy within Swedish, Finnish, and Icelandic municipalities' schools, again funded by the Swedish Research Council. Her scholarly work has been published in several notable journals, including Educational Administration Quarterly, Public Administration, and the Journal of Educational Administration History. Besides her research activities, Jarl has contributed as an expert for organizations such as the Association of Swedish Higher Education Institutions and the Swedish National Agency for Education, and she's held leadership positions in teacher education at both the University of Gothenburg and on a national level.
