Mark Lipton is a Professor at the University of Guelph in the School of English and Theatre Studies. He supports Environment Climate Change Canada, specifically in the Science Communication Division, where he aids in pedagogical training for the science communication professional development program designed for 2000 scientists. With a strong background in both theory and practice, Lipton employs alternative pedagogical models that embrace multidisciplinary perspectives. Prior to his tenure at Guelph, Lipton directed the Media Ecology program at New York University and worked as a resource site advisor for New York City public school teachers. He has taught at Harvey Milk High School in New York City and was a Mellon Fellow in Digital Humanities and Visual Literacy at Vassar College. Lipton also received a Ford Foundation grant and spent time as the education director for the Children’s Media Project, where he led initiatives for health promotion media literacy workshops. His academic interests include education, alternative ways of knowing and learning, as well as studies in communication, media, popular/media cultures, science/technology, performance, improvisation, queer studies, embodiment, and media ecology.
