Dr. Matt Bower

Biography

Matt Bower is a professor at Macquarie University specializing in the innovative use of technology for learning purposes. He is particularly interested in contemporary technologies such as Artificial Intelligence, augmented reality, web-based tools, virtual worlds, social networking, and immersive virtual reality. Matt has authored over 120 peer-reviewed publications in technology-enhanced learning design, teacher education, and computing education, with over 11,000 citations according to Google Scholar. He has led thirty funded grant projects with a total funding exceeding $3 million and has been recognized as one of the top 1% educational researchers by the Stanford Elsevier top scientists list. Matt has contributed to the design of the Australian Framework for Generative AI in Schools and currently leads the Research on AI in School Education (RAISE) Lab at Macquarie University. He has received multiple national and institutional teaching awards, including the Australian Award for University Teaching Excellence in 2021 and the AECT Design Development Outstanding Book Award for his book “Designing Technology-Enhanced Learning - Integrating Research and Practice.” Additionally, Matt is engaged in government policymaking, representing the Australian Council of Deans of Education on various panels.
