Dr. Monique Bournot Trites

Biography

Monique Bournot-Trites is an Associate Professor in the Department of Language and Literacy Education at the University of British Columbia. She specializes in language methodology, focusing on courses in language assessment, research methods, and reading foundations at the graduate level. In 2010, she developed a French M.Ed. cohort at UBC and taught web-conferenced courses for French teachers across Canada while serving as an academic supervisor. Her notable project includes leading the development of the Theoretical Language Framework for Canadian Language Benchmarks. Currently, she collaborates with colleagues from UBC and the University of Toronto on research comparing reading skills between Anglophones and allophones in elementary French immersion. Her research interests encompass French immersion education, language acquisition and development, content learning in additional languages, language evaluation, intercultural competence, grammar instruction, and learning disabilities.
