Biography

Moustapha Fall is an Associate Teaching Professor of French and Francophone Studies at the University of Victoria’s School of Languages, Linguistics, and Cultures. He holds a Master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee and a Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia. His primary areas of expertise include Language Acquisition for both first and second languages, Literacy Education, and Inclusive Teaching and Learning with an emphasis on Decolonized Pedagogies. Dr. Fall is actively engaged in research on early mother tongue literacy and its impact on language learning and has authored six books along with numerous articles on the subject. His contributions have earned him several awards, including the 2024 Faculty Excellence in Teaching Award from UVic. He is the current President of the University of Victoria Association of Black Professors and Academics. Dr. Fall’s work is recognized internationally, with presentations in Central America, North America, Francophone Africa, and Europe, contributing significantly to discussions surrounding multilingual education and linguistic justice. He leads projects focused on enhancing teaching effectiveness in linguistic diversity, aiming to improve student engagement and learning outcomes in his field.
