Biography

Paul McMillan is a Lecturer in Physical Education at the Moray House School of Education and Sport at the University of Edinburgh. He worked for six years as a Physical Education teacher in primary and secondary schools before becoming a teaching fellow in 2009 and then a lecturer in 2017. He completed his Master's Degree in Physical Education and Youth Sport at the University of Edinburgh in 2009 and earned his PhD in 2016, focusing on the qualitative investigation of secondary physical education teachers' practices. Currently, Paul researches the 'Lesson Study' model for professional learning in teaching staff. He co-founded the Lesson Study Scotland Network, providing support for the advancement of Lesson Study practices. Paul has a strong interest in developing personal vision in initial teacher education and co-founded the 'Vision Voices' project. Additionally, he is the Deputy Head of the Institute of Sport, Physical Education, and Health Sciences and serves as the President of the Scottish Educational Research Association. He teaches various undergraduate and postgraduate courses and supervises PhD students in areas related to pedagogy and qualitative research methods.
