Biography

Robin E. Harvey is a Clinical Associate Professor at NYU Steinhardt in the Department of Teaching and Learning. She specializes in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and Bilingual World Language Education. As the Director of NYU's Project Developing Chinese Language Teachers and the program director for NYU’s StarTalk Immersion Training Program for Teachers of Chinese, she has significantly contributed to the field of language education. Harvey has a rich background, having served as a middle school Mandarin teacher in New York and a children's English teacher in Taiwan. In 2002, she founded the Greenwich Village Chinese afterschool summer program for students from toddler to 8th grade. A co-author of 'Rhythms & Tones: Inventive Songs & Chants for Learning Chinese' and its sequel, her research interests encompass Chinese language teacher education, pedagogy, literacy development in bilingual immersion settings, and inquiry-based teaching approaches. Harvey prepares future educators for careers in K-12 bilingual education and supports teachers addressing diverse linguistic backgrounds. Her professional work reflects a commitment to fostering effective language pedagogy across various global contexts.
