Dr. Sonali Nag

Biography

Sonali Nag is a Professor of Psychology in Education at Brasenose College, University of Oxford. Her research interests lie in the fields of child development and learning, focusing on understanding the effects of diverse contextual factors on literacy and language acquisition. Sonali conducts interdisciplinary research, utilizing various methodologies including surveys, child assessments, and both secondary data and narrative reviews. Her work explores the role of writing systems and socio-economic factors on literacy development, primarily in multilingual Indian contexts. She has published extensively in high-impact journals within child development and education, addressing how different languages and writing systems affect learning outcomes. Furthermore, Sonali leads collaborative projects aimed at supporting children's oral language development and understanding the effects of socioeconomic status on literacy skills. She has initiated international networks to study akshara writing systems in Asia, contributing to education reform and policy through evidence-based recommendations.
